During March, women across Hornblower were featured in company communications in recognition of Women’s History Month!

Let’s hear from three amazing crew members at City Cruises Canada:

Kim Lackie, Director of Operations – City Cruises Gananoque & Ivy Lea

What advice would you give to women just starting their careers?

I would say be confident, stay curious, seek support, never be afraid to pursue the opportunities you deserve, and most importantly, support each other. Lift other women up as you grow. When we support each other, it strengthens the workplace and our communities.

Who has been an influential mentor or role model for you, and why?

I have had many role models throughout my career; however, Hayley Wickenheiser resonates with me the most. She is considered one of the greatest women’s hockey players of all time, winning four Olympic gold medals and one silver with Team Canada. She broke barriers by becoming one of the first women to play professional men’s hockey in Europe, showing that women can compete at the highest level and challenging long-standing stereotypes in sports.

What does International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month mean to you?

Every small action a woman makes creates a larger impact in society, and we need to celebrate all the women who shape our lives daily: mothers, sisters, friends, teachers, and colleagues. It means focusing and fighting for gender equality for women everywhere. The day and month serve as a reminder that while society has made progress, there is so much more that we can and will do. Hornblower creates a safe, inviting environment where women and their ideas are valued and nurtured.

Who has been an influential mentor or role model for you, and why?

My mother was my role model. She made all things possible and made me believe that nothing was too far out of reach. She embodied resilience, independence, compassion, and strength and instilled strong values. Her positive and proactive mindset inspires me to push myself daily.

What advice would you give to women just starting their careers?

When you love what you do, even the busiest, most challenging days feel fulfilling and keep you smiling.
